Curious about pistol shooting? Our Open Day is the perfect opportunity to give it a go in a safe, supervised, and welcoming environment.


Held regularly on Sundays, Open Days are designed for newcomers who want to try pistol shooting under the guidance of experienced, licensed instructors. All equipment is provided, and safety is our top priority.

How to Attend an Open Day at Palmerston Pistol Club

Ensure you're not classified as a 'prohibited person' under the NT Firearms Act.

Step 1:

Check Eligibility

Scroll to the "Types of Licences" section and expand the "Prohibited Person" option to review the criteria.


Step 2:

Choose Your Preferred Open Day

Open Days are typically held on Sundays.

Visit the Palmerston Pistol Club's Events Calendar to find upcoming Open Day dates.

Select a date that is at least 3 weeks away to allow for necessary paperwork processing.


Step 3:

Schedule a Pre-Event Interview

Email the club to arrange a brief interview, which must occur on a Sunday between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM, at least 3 weeks before your chosen Open Day.

During the interview, you'll:

  • Receive additional information about the Open Day.
  • Complete the "Prohibited Person Declaration" form, which the club will submit to the NT Police on your behalf.
  • Be required to:
  • Provide valid photo identification.
  • Pay a non-refundable $20 administration fee, covering firearm and ammunition use.

Step 4:

Await Confirmation and Prepare

If the NT Police identify any issues, they will contact you directly. Otherwise, you can look forward to attending on your scheduled Open Day.

Step 5:

Attend the Open Day

On the day of the event, participate in a supervised shooting session.

All necessary equipment, including firearms and ammunition, will be provided.
